Our Future: Economist speaks at MBA lunch.
The Monash business community can be cautiously optimistic about Australia’s economic future, says Bendigo Bank Economist David Robertson.
Speaking at the Monash Business Awards networking lunch yesterday, David delved into the local and global economy as we recover from the pandemic, and navigate the impact of war, local weather events and a change of government.
“We’ve moved onto bigger issues to deal with other than the pandemic,” David said. “But I think it’s important to look at what our economy looked like through those two years to now. I think the good news is we went into this global challenge with a much stronger economy than other countries.
“We have avoided the last four recessions that the rest of the world has had. We don’t yet have falling GDP or falling employment and therefore the Reserve Bank can manage that soft landing. We are cautiously optimistic.”
More than fifty business people gathered at Huntingdale Golf Course to hear David speak. KOR Equipment Solutions Founding Director Stephen Pewtress praised the MBA for bringing David’s comprehensive insight to the community.
“It will help business owners navigate through some uncertain waters,” he said. “It helps us understand what to do more of and what to do less of. The MBA forum continues to provide a platform of knowledge and networking not just in Monash but across Australia.”
Four more award nominees were also introduced at the event. Representatives from MUS Collective, Melissa Martin Photography and Cantabile School of Music received certificates of nomination while SilVR Adventures was unable to attend due to illness.
